Frequently asked questions.
What should I expect from coaching?
Feeling stuck? I use a range of coaching techniques to shift perspective and gain greater understanding. In order to get the most out of coaching, it’s important to pick someone who is the right ‘fit’. So the first step is to book a free 20 min consultation to see if we could work well together.
As part of the coaching partnership, we agree to meet for an initial number of sessions (usually around four). At the first session, we work together to agree goals.
I work via Zoom, which allows flexibility in coaching people internationally. Coaching sessions are usually 60 minutes long.
Coaching is very rewarding, and often requires taking bold action to make the changes to achieve your desired future. I will support and work alongside you to reach your goals.
How should I choose a coach?
Coaching is an unregulated industry, and there are a wide range of training courses with differing accreditation. The are two main bodies of accreditation for coaches: the EMCC (European Mentoring and Coaching Council - Global), and International Coaching Federation.
I am a Coach accredited to Senior Practitioner Level. This means I have had undergone independent assessment by EMCC Global, undertaken over 500 hours of coach training and in excess of 250 hours of coaching. EMCC Global has a code of coaching ethics, which I subscribe to. When choosing a coach, a person who has undergone significant training approved by either EMCC or ICF would ensure a level of external accountability and scrutiny.
What is the time commitment?
Coaching sessions are around 60 minutes, and are usually 2-4 weeks apart. Between sessions, there may be up to 2 hours of actions and reflections you may wish to undertake, to help you move forward with your goals.
How do I get started?
Feel that coaching could make a difference to you? The first step is to book a 20 minute free consultation. This informal chat allows us both to explore what you are looking for from coaching, and whether working together would be a good fit.
Is coaching confidential?
I am aware how important confidentiality is to my clients. I provide a confidential service and abide by the EMCC code of ethics, and obligations under regulatory bodies (General Medical Council/New Zealand Medical Council). Further information on confidentiality is contained within the coaching agreement.
Can coaching be used for CPD?
Definitely! The time of coaching sessions can be used to help you meet your CPD requirements. I am happy to provide a certificate on request stating the number of hours of coaching. Reflection time, and time completing coaching-related exercises, can also be claimed.
The cost of coaching can usually be claimed as Professional Expenses (CPD) for tax purposes, or from study leave budgets. If you require a more detailed invoice to obtain approval for CPD expenses, please let me know.
Can you help me with passing an exam?
Difficulties passing an exam is one of the commonest reasons people look for coaching. It might be issues with a new format, anxiety, imposter phenomenon, confidence in viva situations - all can be helped with coaching. Coaching related to exam issues is usually undertaken over three sessions, but it can be more depending on the issues. I look forward to working with you.
